Welcome to our home. My name is Sue and I am a Christian that loves the Lord with all my heart. I live in Central Florida with my husband and best friend, Adolph. We have been married for 42 years. We have three adult children who brought three more blessings into our lives when they married. I am the proud Grammie of nine grandchildren who have enriched my life beyond measure.
A little over ten years ago we thought we were going to take an early retirement and travel around doing short term mission work. So we sold the home that we had raised our family in and bought a travel trailer, but we soon realized that God was telling us to wait. He had other plans for us. We lived in our travel trailer for 13 months as we waited on God to work out the details for the next step we were to take. About six months into the travel trailer experience we felt we were to build another home, so we found a builder and a lot and built our current home. About two years after moving into our new home we knew why God had had us wait - my Dad had a couple of heart attacks and his health began to deteriorate rapidly. He was no longer able to take care of their property and my Mom needed help taking care of him. God opened the door for us to sell their place and buy them a home in our neighborhood - right around the corner from us. We are so blessed to have them close by and be able to help take care of them. Isn't it wonderful that God knows our needs even before we do and prepares the way for us?
When we built our current home our plan was to only live here a few years. We built a comtemporary, traditional style home, thinking that it would be easier to sell when the time came.
Our previous home was mostly country style, but I had begun to purchase a few primitive antiques as my taste was beginning to change. When we sold our home we told our kids to take anything they wanted - had a huge garage sale - donated a lot of items - and then put what was left into storage. There were some things I just couldn't part with.
After moving into our current home I tried to decorate in a more contemporary, traditional style, but I was miserable and just couldn't seem to get it right. One day I asked Adolph to hang an old primitive peg rack, from our former home's entry hall, in the entry way of this home. I hung a few things I loved on the pegs and then it began to feel like home. As I began to bring in more things from storage he realized that he too had missed what he used to call my "junk". We began to haul in the "junk" and haul out the newer stuff and the transition to a more primitive style of decorating began. Adolph is almost as enthusiastic as I am about making my decorating ideas become a reality. He accompanies me on antiquing trips and often spots things I miss that are perfect for our home. I am so blessed to share my love of God and family and our home with my best friend.
Adolph was able to retire about two and a half years ago and is now helping me baby sit our three year old grandson and care for my parents. In his spare time he enjoys working on projects in his workshop. He is very talented and will try to make anything I ask for. We are truly living some of the best years of our life together.
Thank you so much for allowing me to share our home with you. I am honored to be the November Homestead of the Month. I would love for you to visit my blog, Primsue's Heart and Home. The address is http://primsue.blogspot.com/.
