I grew up inupstate New York but I have lived in the south for about thirty-five years. I love it here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else! I grew up in a city but I always dreamed of living in the country. Now I do! Sometimes I wonder how a city kid could yearn for the country life and farm animals. While we don't live on a true farm I do have goats, a sheep, a cat and one very large dog.
When I bought my Nigerian Dwarf goats I registered one of them with a registry. They wanted me to come up with a farm name. I gave this a lot of thought before coming up with Just Kiddin' Farm. They accepted it! I think it fits us.
I have been married for thirty-eight years. We have four children. Two birth and two adopted. Our youngest graduated from high school just a couple of weeks ago. Empty next, here we come!
Years ago I decorated our home with the country look but after a few years I decided I wanted something different. I paired down our things to have a less cluttered look. I don't know what you would call my decorating style today. Maybe a prim/colonial?
I am a living history re enactor and I volunteer at a state park in Virginia. It is called Wilderness Road State Park. There is a fort on the property (Martin's Station) and one weekend a month I live in a cabin there. I love speaking to the public and hopefully teaching them a bit of history.
Through living history I was able to learn many things including spinning wool into yarn and weaving yarn into cloth. These I have been doing for about twelve years. My hobby grew and grew until I outgrew the 12 foot by 15 foot room I used for my studio in our basement. Two and a half years ago we bought the house next door and it became my new studio. I call it Pine Ridge Handwovens. This is like a dream come true for me. Having the entire upstairs of a house to spread out my ten looms and four spinning wheels in is so wonderful. There are days when I look over there and still can't quite believe it is mine!
On Tuesdays I can be found at a local arts center where about twenty weavers gather to make things to be sold in the shop. I really enjoy going there. We have so much fun while working!
I hope you enjoy taking a tour through our home and studio.
Linda
